Library Program The Friends of the East Kingston Public Library are proud to present Glen Swanson, PhD and "The Search for Identity in the Middle East". Investigate the riddle of identity within Islam, the rivalries, the responses, the importance of education – and the value of cultural awareness. When Muhammad brought the message of Islam to his followers, he revolutionized social, religious, and political systems. In place of the tribe he ordered a new focus, namely the “Ummah,” the community of Muslims believing in the oneness of God. For some, this path has proven to be the ultimate answer in the search for identity. Many others in the Middle East – Muslims and non-Muslims alike – continue to ask, “Who am I?” Come here this insightful topic on June 4th at 7pm at the East Kingston Public Library
