East Kingston Library:

A Sincere Thank You

To the residence of East Kingston –

We thank you for your presence.
We thank you for your vote of support.
We thank you for your patience.
We thank you for your good judgment.

A special thank you to our residents in Cricket Hill and Maplevale.
We thank you for your unity. We thank you for all your efforts.

The library trustee's are overjoyed by the support the town provided us at last evening's meeting. The turn out at special town meeting far exceeded our expectation. We are proud to serve East Kingston as Trustees of the Library.

We thank you for your trust.

We remain committed to getting the best new library that we can for our tax dollar. We look forward to communicating information about the building progress!

Sincerely,

Joanna McGarry Postle on behalf of the Trustees of the EK Public Library

PS Quick recap from my notes:
Article 1 passed with 213 Yes votes and 30 No votes.
Article 2 was replaced with the following amendment:
"Delete all the current wording of Article #2 and replace with: 'The
Board of Selectmen is urged to support and assist the Library trustees at every turn as this important community project proceeds, and should
refrain from taking any actions legal or otherwise that would impede or delay the prompt completion of the new library.'"
Article 2 passed by majority vote.

Fantastic

I cannot wait to see what Spin Doctoring, Tom Foolery and general WEASELINESS that our so called Selectmen will come up with next on this matter.

Whether you are for or against the library being built or any other matter on the yearly ballot is it good to see that the people in this town will stand up and force the elected officials (e.g.: Selectmen) of this town to do what is right and what the town voted on in the first place.

I found it refreshing that the Library Trustees were able to supply the towns people with facts and reference material from the state and other sources.

However, I feel that the Selectmen should be ashamed that they have not done their homework on this matter and were only able to supply us with a Lawyer that offered personal opinions, mud slinging and vague hearsay at best.

ah, no.....you guys deserve the thanks

Speaking of Lawyers

Did it cost the people of EK anything for the selectmen's lawyer, or did they pay for that with personal funds?

Just wondering how much extra this has cost us in needless legal iterations.

Congrats to the Library Trustees. Your hard work has and will pay off for all of us.

Cost of Bad Legal Advice
Posted by surwick on 2007-06-09 20:44:36.0 from: 216.203.59.252

Of course it cost the taxpayers money in legal fees to support the selctmen's posturing. I would call the actions of the selectmen resulting in these additional costs to us "reckless and irresponsible".
